Planning a wedding is exciting, fun and also a little stressful. Even the most organised brides often look back and think of things they wish they did differently. So, we asked our Instagram followers about their biggest wedding day regrets, and the responses were quite frankly honest, relatable, and will hopefully ensure you don’t repeat their mistakes!
Don’t skip the rehearsal prep
“I wish I’d taken more time during the rehearsal to practice and organise my vendors.” – Brittani
It’s easy to think you’ll figure it out on the day, but even a quick run-through helps vendors know where to be and when, keeps nerves in check, and ensures your ceremony flows smoothly.
Takeaway: Take time during the rehearsal to make sure everyone knows what they're doing. It's worth it for peace of mind!
Don’t sweat the small stuff
“Stressing too much about the little things.” – Chelsea
Tiny details (like napkin colours or flower placements) can feel huge in the lead-up, but no one remembers them. What guests do remember is the love, laughter, and joy of the day.
Takeaway: Focus on what matters most - marrying your best friend and celebrating with your favourite people.
Comparing Vendors
“I regret spending so much time comparing vendors.” – Ella
“I got overwhelmed by how many options there were.” – Olivia
Too many options can result in decision fatigue!
Takeaway: Don't go down a rabbit hole looking at every possible option. Once you’ve found the vendors and people who feel right and match your vision, trust them!
Not pausing to soak it all in
“I wish I’d taken a few quiet moments with my husband.” – Kelsi
Weddings move fast and the day will be over before you know it! It’s easy to get swept along in the whirlwind of the day.
Takeaway: Take time to slow down and enjoy your time together as a couple as well as with your guests. One way you could do this is by having a first look.
Not hiring a Videographer
"I wish we had hired a videographer. We only have photos and I wish I could relive the speeches on video." - Kim
It’s easy to think hiring a videographer is just an added cost but weddings move fast, and even the most beautiful photos can’t fully capture the speeches and unique moments throughout your day.
Takeaway: If your budget allows, consider adding a videographer - even if it's just for a few hours. You’ll treasure the footage long after the day and it's the closest thing to time travel on your wedding day!
Other regrets:
“Wearing uncomfortable shoes!!!!”
“Not having bridesmaids, it felt too stressful at the time”
“I didn’t have a first look and was soo nervous walking down the aisle”
"Inviting too many people"
